Satya Nadella is an Indian American Business Executive who has spent more than 22 years at Microsoft before becoming CEO of the tech giant. He immigrated from India and is largely credited as carrying the company successfully into the 21st century.

So, who is Satya?

– Satya was born in Hyderabad, Andrapradesh, India to a Brahmin family. His father was a civil servant of the Indian Administrative Service.

– He attended the Hyderabad Public School, Begumpet before attaining Bachelor of Engineering degree in electrical engineering from Manipal Institute of Technology (then part of Mangalore University) in 1988.

– Nadella said he “always wanted to build things” and that “electrical engineering was a great way for me to go discover what turned out to become a passion.

– Nadella moved to the U.S. to study for a Master of Science in Computer Science at the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee, receiving his degree in 1990. Later he received his MBA degree from the University of Chicago.

– He then worked at Sun Microsystems before embarking on his tenure at Microsoft in 1992.

– He previously held high positions before such as the position of executive vice president of Microsoft’s Cloud and Enterprise group, President of the Server & Tools Division and Corporate Vice-President of Business Solutions and Search & Advertising Platform Group.

– Satya succeeded Steve Balmer and was appointed Chief Executive Officer in February 2014.

– He made controversial decisions regarding Microsoft’s life some even resulted in large layoffs, but that ultimately resulted in an increase in share price and bring Microsoft to profitability.

– He has a cricket bat signed by Sachin Tendulkar as his favorite personal possession.

– And, also written a book, titled Hit Refresh. The book explores his life, Microsoft and how technology will shape the future.
